教学过程

Step1. Lead in

Show students two groups of pictures, asking them to say something about them and conclude a writing strategy ‘to show not to tell’.

Step2. Differences between continuing a story and writing a story

Step3. Read for the main elements and plots

Step4. Read for language

1. {C}How to describe a big fire?

2. {C}How to highlight personalities?

Step5. Explore the theme

Step 6. Complete the continuation writing

Step 7. Assessment and correction

教学反思

Continuation writing is a struggle for the students because of their ignorance of the reading material, such as the exploration of the theme, the personalities of the characters, the language style of the writer, etc.  Students’ continuation parts tend to be in disagreement with the reading material, and their description is likely to be dull. So it is necessary to help them realize their weaknesses and polish up their writing. ‘Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man a fish and you feed him for a lifetime.’ Thus, I think it is vital to teach them the appoaches to make their description lively, that is, ‘to show, not to tell’.
